Wolverhampton singer-songwriter Cariss Auburn treats us to her latest single “Day Dream” an escapist disco-infused fantasy, which she personally describes as a ‘3-minute Holiday’. Her forthcoming EP entitled ‘Refraction’ is sure to make huge waves when it drops this April…
Influenced by the likes of the legendary soul singer Luther Vandross, as well as actress and singer Billie Piper, Auburn’s music career began aged 8, when she formed a girl group with her friend; she has since gone from strength to strength and shows no signs of stopping.
Discussing the inspirations behind her latest single Auburn stated: “Living in such a connected world I feel that we absorb so much trauma and pain daily – especially as a black woman. It’s hard to take a break from that pain without feeling this immense guilt. But we deserve that break!”
We definetely all deserve a break, this year more than ever, whilst we’re trapped in this perpetual cycle of lockdown; escapism is one of the only things we have. The track reflects upon the memories of a holiday Auburn took to Japan, longing for the days were things where simpler and wanting more than ever to drop everything in her life and fly back.
The music video itself shows Auburn in several beautifully crafted high fashion garments, as she dances over footage which she took on holiday. Both the video and fashion featured are vivid and dreamlike, which captures the essence of the song perfectly. Much like Auburn, we all have days where we wish we could simply fly up to the clouds and escape our troubles…
If you are looking to simply tune out the world or have a deserved mental break after a long day, we highly recommend giving ‘Day Dream’ a listen. You can watch the official music video below!
