Junodream – Travel Guide

Close your eyes and drift down a river of alt/indie cadences with Junodream’s latest single Travel Guide. Comprised of five old school friends: Ed Vyvyan (vocals), Dougal Gray (guitar), Tom Rea (guitar), Will Ryder (bass), and Jake Gidley (drums), Junodreams aims to bring to life those feelings you don’t normally pay attention to.

Travel Guide offers the fantasy that holiday a might be used as a means to escape your demons. Vyvyan’s understated voice conveys the emotion of the lyrics, powerfully floating over the top of instrumental peaks when needed. Describing the track, the band explain: ‘…when you travel, you discover that your expectations are unrealistic: the beaches and the resorts aren’t quite the treasure island you had imagined. It’s fundamentally a sad concept. You’re so far from home, but you still can’t escape your problems.’ Reflected in the lyrics, the blissful psychadelia of the melody is haunted by a melancholy undertone: ‘Take some time for peace of mind, tell your friends it all went smooth…

Inspired by a love of 90s legends, including alt-rock greats such as Radiohead, the band creates intelligent, affecting music that rises and falls with intended emotion. It can be heard in the judicious clashing of instruments during the long instrumental that gradually descends into a gentle fadeout.
