The Lathums – Oh My Love

Up and coming music sensations The Lathums have blessed us with their latest single this week, Oh My Love. Their first release of 2021 precedes their biggest headline tour to date, which takes place later this year, and also their highly anticipated debut album which is yet to be announced.

The four-piece, who originally hail from Wigan, are taking the world of indie pop by storm. Since 2019, the band have released several successful singles and EPs, and are yet to disappoint as they produce a seemingly endless stream of catchy hits.

In recent social media posts, frontman Alex Moore explained what the new single meant to him and how he came to write it: “I was only able to fully finish the lyrics after I met all you lovely people who are genuinely interested about me and the lads. It was then I found I could make other people feel emotions and give you something to confide in. It gives me purpose and it makes me feel I’m doing something right. The song comes from pain and uncertainty, but through you folk I gained the confidence and the desire to leave that dark place and become who I was meant to be. This is a little bit of me that I want to share with you because without you I would never have had the chance. The word love means a lot to me and I don’t use it unless I really mean it but I do love you all”.

In a recent press release, he also added that: “The opening line starts a back and forth with someone who is no longer with us, talking from above. Moving on, lines like ‘time is weak and demanding of me’ are a concession to the fact that life moves on, it’s too short and there’s no need to hang on to negativity. It’s upbeat and happy, a complete juxtaposition to the starting point for the song when I was a hurting teenager”.

Oh My Love sees The Lathums show off their roots with a modest ‘up North’ themed music video, which perfectly accompanies the song’s lyrical nature. Moore’s uplifting lyrics prove his storytelling is as impeccable as ever and sees the band continue to go from strength to strength. The upbeat tune is paired with bouncy melodies that are sure to get the summer crowds moving in the coming months – perhaps its only fault is that the song is less than two and a half minutes long and we are as eager as ever to hear more Lathums material.

Undeniably a song to be played on loop, Oh My Love is a must listen for indie pop fans and shows that The Lathums are certainly going places. As the band’s journey continues, they provide a glimmer of hope that guitar music is yet to be well and truly buried.
