Earlier this year we were graced with the 10th-anniversary edition of The Vaccines debut album ‘What Did You Expect from The Vaccines?’, an indie staple for any fan of the genre. As if this wasn’t enough, we were also graced with the release of their new single ‘Headphones Baby’ being their latest release since 2018.
‘Headphones Baby’, has the energy of a classic Vaccines track with it’s catchy lyrics, upbeat tempo and vibrant energy, nothing has been spared from it. We see a side of The Vaccines we haven’t been introduced to before, adapting and experimenting with their new sound, it gives us an insight into what we can expect from their upcoming fifth record. Is ‘Headphone Baby’ a one-off track for the band? Or will the record be focused on exploring the pop genre, leaving their signature indie sound behind?
The opening lyrics ‘I wanna live inside your headphones baby, I wanna live inside a world, wherever you are’ explores themes of escapism in modern day life.
So, with that in mind I want you to imagine you’re at a Vaccines gig, ‘Nørgaard’ has just energised the crowd, you’ve bonded with a bunch of strangers over the expressive indie sound and an expensive warm pint, then the new pop sound of ‘Headphones Baby’ has electrified the crowd, life is good and once again the world is back to how it should be.
